SHAUNA KARINE
I was a born-in 6th generation goody two shoes JW, former pioneer and wife to a Ministerial Servant, that left in 1998. Like most JWs, I married young at only 18. WE DIDN'T CONSUMMATE OUR MARRIAGE FOR TWO MONTHS! By the time I left the marriage and cult 6.5 years later, we'd only had sex about 30 times.
Sexual repression turned into personal liberation when I joined a swinger/lifestyle community. Through exploring non-monogamy over 15 years, I remembered I'm bisexual, dismantled fundamentalist purity dogma, and learned about the eros of my body. In 2017 I completed a 200-hour Tantra Facilitator training and in 2019 became the world's first Intimacy Surrogate, assisting men to develop a conscious cock, understand women's pleasure & heart needs, and become empowered in the way they lead intimate relationships. I also run programs and retreats for women to decode the metaphysical source of their womb
issues, using music and tantric practices to reclaim their empowered voice and sensuality.

Through 26 years of deprogramming and study, I've learned that issues in the bedroom are only a microcosm of insecurities in your sense of self and relational trauma wounds. As exJW's we got a lot of that, even if you've been out for decades.

As Jehovah's Witnesses, we were inculcated with a warped and fearful view of sexuality as wicked immorality. Pleasure was demonized and normal expressions of intimacy, even within marriage, were grounds for everlasting destruction. Patriarchal relational dynamics created unbalanced and unloving arrangements where women were required to give their husbands "their due" at the sacrifice of their own needs, made it so wives had no recourse and were blamed for abuse, and instilled compulsive sexual behavior in men. All while the Watchtower obsessed about porneia, pornography, and homosexual sin at every meeting, in front of children. And of course, there's also rampant CSA.
When you leave the cult, you may still be a virgin, feel undeveloped sexually, and hold a lot of shame and embarrassment for not knowing how to be intimate with another confidently and freely. Even if you've been out for a while, you may struggle with boundaries, knowing your body's pleasure map, or have difficulty being vulnerable.
When you can control someone's sexuality, you can control their whole lives. Liberating your sexuality and intimate relationships has bigger impacts on your life than just the bedroom.
